Norden Bombsight

At the outset of the United States involvement in WWII, the Norden bombsight was rated as far superior to any previously designed instrument for computing bomb trajectories. The instruments were so highly classified that they were stored in heavily guarded vaults. When students prepared for training sorties, they had to receive clearance to enter the vault area, and when issued their sights, they exited in pairs accompanied by armed security personnel.

A WWII leather flight jacket on loan from Peppy Blount can be seen here along with his leather flight helmet. The blue flight jacket, flight helmet, high visibility flight suit and anti G suit were donated by Frank Strickler. The parachute was donated by Chuck Cawthon, as was the parachute on display above the mezzanine.
